How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Luxury Car in Bangkok?
Luxury car rental prices in Bangkok vary widely depending on the brand, model, and rental duration. Thailand's high import taxes on vehicles mean rental rates are higher than in some other countries, but they remain significantly cheaper than owning one outright.
| Tier | Example Models | Daily Rate | Typical Deposit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget Luxury | BMW 430i, Mercedes C-Class, Tesla Model 3 | ฿7,900 to ฿15,000 | ฿30,000 to ฿50,000 |
| Mid-Range | Porsche 718, Cayenne, BMW Z4 M40i | ฿15,000 to ฿35,000 | ฿50,000 to ฿100,000 |
| Supercar | Porsche 911, Lamborghini Huracán, Ferrari 488 | ฿35,000 to ฿70,000+ | ฿100,000+ |
Multi-day rentals almost always come with lower daily rates. Targa drops their 911 Carrera S from 29,900 to 19,900 baht per day on a 15-day booking. Richcars offers monthly rentals starting from 65,000 baht, which can work out to just over 2,000 baht per day for budget vehicles.
Most companies accept credit cards for the rental fee itself. Deposits are often required in cash, though some companies can hold a credit card deposit. Always confirm payment methods before your booking date.
What You Need to Rent as a Foreigner
Renting a luxury car in Bangkok as a foreigner is straightforward, but you need the right documents.
- Valid passport
- International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home country license. Thailand technically requires an IDP for foreign drivers, and rental companies will ask for one.
- Valid driver's license from your home country
- Refundable security deposit (typically 30,000 to 100,000+ baht depending on the vehicle)
Some companies may accept a valid foreign license without an IDP, but carrying one removes any ambiguity. You can get an IDP from your home country's automobile association (AAA in the US, AA in the UK) before traveling.
Age requirements vary by company. Most require renters to be at least 21, and some require 25+ for supercar rentals. Always confirm age requirements when booking.
Delivery, Insurance, and What Is Included
Delivery Options
Most Bangkok luxury rental companies will deliver the car directly to your hotel, condo, or airport. Richcars offers free delivery anywhere in Bangkok and surrounding areas, plus nationwide delivery to cities like Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Pattaya. Targa charges 10 baht per kilometer for delivery anywhere in Thailand, which gives them nationwide reach as well.
Delivery is one of the most convenient parts of renting in Bangkok. You avoid the hassle of getting to a rental lot, and most companies will also pick the car up when you are done.
Insurance Coverage
All reputable rental companies in Bangkok include basic insurance with the rental. Coverage typically includes third-party liability and damage to the vehicle, but there are important exclusions to know about.
From our experience with Richcars:
- If you are not at fault in an accident, you pay nothing
- If you are at fault, you pay 10,000 baht per damaged part
- Driving under the influence voids all coverage. You are responsible for the full cost of any damage.
- Driving into floodwaters voids coverage
Insurance terms vary between companies. Always read the rental agreement carefully and ask about exclusions before signing. Some companies offer upgraded insurance packages for an additional fee.
What Is Typically Included
- Basic insurance
- Delivery and pickup (free or per-km fee depending on the company)
- Unlimited mileage (Richcars confirms this; not all companies offer it)
- 24-hour phone or LINE support
What is typically not included: fuel (return the car with the same level), toll fees, traffic fines, and any damage caused by negligence or contract violations.
Best Driving Routes from Bangkok
Renting a luxury car in Bangkok is one thing. Knowing where to take it is another. These are three of the best routes we recommend for a day trip or overnight drive.
Bangkok to Hua Hin (400 km round trip)
This is the route we took with our Richcars 991.2 rental. The highways heading south are smooth, well maintained, and mostly straight until you reach the coast. Hua Hin has good hotels, night markets like Cicada Market, and plenty of seafood. It is a comfortable overnight trip that lets you actually enjoy the car on open roads. Read the full trip report here.
Bangkok to Khao Yai (400 km round trip)
Head northeast from Bangkok toward Nakhon Ratchasima and you will hit the winding mountain roads leading to Khao Yai National Park. This route has some of the best driving roads near Bangkok, with elevation changes, curves, and mountain scenery. It is about two hours each way in light traffic. Several boutique resorts and wineries along the way make it a great weekend trip.
Bangkok to Ayutthaya (160 km round trip)
The shortest option on this list. Ayutthaya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 80 kilometers north of Bangkok. The drive is quick on the expressway, and you can explore ancient temple ruins before heading back in the afternoon. Not the most exciting road, but the destination is worth it if you want a half-day outing.
