Durametric sits between a basic handheld scanner and Porsche’s factory PIWIS system. It can reach Porsche control units that a generic OBD-II reader cannot see. The trade-off is simple: you need a Windows computer and a cable, and coverage still varies by chassis and control unit.
Our Durametric verdict
Best for: owners who want fault codes, live values, and actuator tests with a laptop. The official Version 6 feature matrix we reviewed lists model-year bands from 1989 through 2015.
Skip it if: you want a self-contained handheld, use only macOS or a phone, or need ECU flashing and key programming. Durametric’s official FAQ says the software runs only on Microsoft Windows and does not support flash programming.

The cable stores the VIN limit. Connecting an Enthusiast cable to a fourth car does not replace an old VIN. Durametric says an Enthusiast kit can be upgraded to Professional for the price difference plus shipping.
On September 10, 2026, Durametric listed the standard Enthusiast kit at $287. The $675 Basic Professional kit was out of stock. The cheapest Professional kit not marked out of stock was $735. Check the official Durametric store before ordering.
Durametric’s FAQ lists a six-month hardware warranty. It says free software updates are generally supported for three years from purchase.
What Durametric can do
Documented functions differ by model. Common Version 6 functions include reading and clearing Porsche fault codes, viewing actual values, and running supported activations. Some models also support service reminder resets and coding changes.

What Durametric cannot do
- Durametric itself does not support DME flash programming. Some distributor kits may pair the cable with separate tuning software.
- The Enthusiast kit cannot become an unlimited-car tool without an upgrade.
- Clearing a code does not repair the fault that caused it.
- No function is guaranteed across every model-year and module variant.
Coding is also not the same as programming. Durametric describes coding as changing predefined settings in a supported control unit. Replacing or flashing a module is a different job.
Which kit should you buy?
- Check the connector. Some older Porsches need the round adapter.
- Check the matrix. Find your model row and the exact task you need.
- Count the cars. Three lifetime VIN slots suit most owners. Shops should choose Professional.
- Confirm your computer. Durametric requires Microsoft Windows.
