What Is the Porsche Macan EV

The Porsche Macan EV is the second generation of Porsche’s compact SUV, and it is fully electric. Porsche revealed it in early 2024. It is the first Porsche built on the new PPE, or Premium Platform Electric, an 800-volt architecture the brand developed with Audi.

This is a bigger deal than a normal model swap. The old gas Macan was Porsche’s best-selling car for years. Rather than update it, Porsche split the nameplate in two. The all-electric Macan is the future, and in Europe it is already the only Macan you can buy. As Porsche’s first all-electric SUV, it also sets the template for the brand’s next wave of EVs.

The Macan EV Lineup and What Each Trim Delivers

Each Macan EV trim has its own character. The gap between the base car and the Turbo is huge, both in power and in price. Here is what you actually get at each step.

Porsche Macan Electric (Base RWD)

The base Porsche Macan Electric is the only rear-wheel-drive version. It uses a single electric motor on the rear axle. Peak output is 355 hp with Launch Control, and it hits 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.

Do not dismiss it as the slow one. It is quicker than the old gas Macan S, and it goes the furthest of any Macan EV at 332 miles of EPA range. It starts at $80,300, which makes it the value pick of the range.

Porsche Macan 4 Electric

The Porsche Macan 4 Electric adds a second electric motor on the front axle for all-wheel drive. That lifts peak power to 402 hp and drops the 0-60 time to 4.9 seconds. EPA range is 324 miles, barely down from the base car.

This is the sweet spot for most buyers. You get all-wheel-drive grip, strong range, and a starting price of $84,000. For Thailand’s wet season and mixed roads, the extra traction earns its keep.

Porsche Macan 4S Electric

The Macan 4S is where things get serious. Launch Control unlocks 509 hp, and 0-60 arrives in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is 149 mph. It also adds standard air suspension and bigger brakes.

Range drops to 290 miles, the lowest in the lineup. That is the tradeoff for the extra motor output and larger wheels. It starts at $89,900.

Macan GTS Electric

Porsche added the Macan GTS in late 2025 as the fifth variant, slotting it between the 4S and the Turbo. It makes 563 hp and 704 lb-ft with Launch Control, and hits 60 mph in 3.6 seconds on the way to a 155 mph top speed.

The GTS is the sport-tuned pick. It rides 10 mm lower on standard air suspension, gets darkened trim, and adds the GTS-specific chassis tune. EPA range is 294 miles, and it starts at $105,300, just under the Turbo.

Macan Turbo Electric

The Macan Turbo is the flagship. There is no turbocharger, of course, since it is electric. Porsche keeps the Turbo name to signal the top of the range. It makes 630 hp and 833 lb-ft of torque with Launch Control.

That hurls the SUV to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and on to a 162 mph top speed. It is quicker than the old gas Macan Turbo by a wide margin. EPA range is 293 miles, and it starts at $112,700.

Battery, Range, and 800V Charging

The battery is the heart of the Macan EV, and it is the same unit across all five trims. What changes is how hard each car uses it. Charging is where the 800-volt system really pays off.

The 100 kWh Battery and EPA Range

Every Macan EV carries a 100 kWh gross battery, of which about 95 kWh is usable. It is a lithium-ion pack mounted flat in the floor. That placement keeps the weight low, which helps handling.

EPA range spans 290 to 332 miles. The base rear-drive Macan tops the chart. Add motors and power and range falls, but even the thirsty Turbo clears 290 miles. On the European WLTP cycle the numbers read higher, up to 380 miles, because WLTP is a gentler test than EPA.

800V Fast Charging Explained

The 800-volt architecture is the Macan EV’s charging trick. Most EVs run at 400 volts. Doubling the voltage lets the car pull more power without heavier cables, so charging is faster and cooler.

On a compatible DC fast charger the Macan EV accepts up to 270 kW. That takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 21 minutes under ideal conditions. On a 400-volt charger the car can split its battery into two banks to keep speeds up.

For a road trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin or Khao Yai, a single 20-minute stop covers most of the drive. Home AC charging tops out at 11 kW, enough for a full overnight refill.

The PPE Platform Under the Skin

The Macan EV is the first car on Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric, or PPE. Porsche and Audi built it together for their next generation of electric SUVs. The Audi Q6 e-tron is its close cousin.

PPE is a native EV platform, not a converted gas chassis. The battery, motors, and 800-volt wiring were designed in from the start. That means a flat floor, a low seating position for an SUV, and space for a small front trunk.

Chassis, Steering, and Handling

Porsche tuned the Macan EV to drive like a Porsche, not a heavy appliance. Standard steel suspension comes on the base cars, and air suspension with two-valve dampers is standard on the 4S, GTS, and Turbo. Higher trims add Porsche Active Suspension Management, so the dampers firm up or soften with the drive mode for tighter body control.

Optional rear axle steering is available across the range. This rear axle steering turns the rear wheels to shrink the turning circle at low speed and add stability at high speed. With torque vectoring on the AWD cars, the Macan EV hides its weight well. The driving experience feels smaller and sharper than the numbers suggest from behind the wheel.

Weight is the honest downside. The battery pushes curb weight from around 4,900 lb on the base car to over 5,300 lb on the Turbo. That is a lot, but the low mounting point and clever chassis tuning keep it from feeling clumsy.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the Macan EV moves Porsche’s cabin forward. There is a curved 12.6-inch driver display and a 10.9-inch central touchscreen. A third passenger display is optional, and it is angled so the driver cannot see video content while moving.

The system runs Android Automotive under the hood, with native Google apps and an in-car voice assistant. Apple CarPlay is built in. Porsche also added an augmented-reality head-up display that projects navigation arrows onto the road ahead.

The Porsche app links your phone to the car for remote services. You can pre-cool the cabin, check charge status, and lock the doors from anywhere. An optional comfort memory package saves seat, mirror, and steering positions for each driver.

The flat floor frees up rear-seat space, and cargo room is up versus the gas car. There is 17.2 cubic feet behind the rear seats plus a small front trunk for cables. Driver aids include adaptive cruise control and lane keeping, bundled into optional assistance packages.

Design and Dimensions

The Macan EV keeps the family look but sharpens it. The nose is lower, the roofline drops toward the tail, and the whole shape leans more coupe than boxy SUV. Split headlights put the daytime running lights up high and the main beams down in the bumper.

At the back sits a full-width light bar with the Porsche name spelled out across it. It is the clearest signal that this is the new car and not the old one.

Size on the Road

The electric Macan measures 188.4 inches long on a 113.9-inch wheelbase. That is a touch longer than the gas Macan it replaces, with more space between the wheels. The extra wheelbase is where the battery lives.

On the road it still counts as a compact SUV. It slots below the Cayenne and stays easy to park in a Bangkok mall garage. The frameless doors and flush handles keep the profile clean.

Aerodynamics and Efficiency

Porsche chased a low drag figure to protect range. Active cooling flaps, a smooth underbody, and the falling roofline all cut drag. The result is a drag coefficient as low as 0.25, strong for an SUV. Better airflow means more miles from the same battery.

Macan EV vs the Gas Macan

This is the question most buyers ask. The short answer: the electric Macan is faster, quieter, and cheaper to run, while the gas Macan is simpler and needs no charging plan. But the choice is shrinking fast, because the gas car is going away.

Porsche stopped selling the gas Macan in Europe in 2024. The US kept it on sale into 2026 as a bridge, but it is being retired too. In most of the world, the electric Macan is now the only Macan.
