The Porsche Macan Turbo has been two very different cars. From 2014 it was a twin-turbo V6 SUV, with 400 hp at launch and 440 hp later. Since 2024 it has been fully electric, with up to 639 PS. Check the model year before you compare anything.
In this article, we’ll explain the Porsche Macan Turbo, Porsche’s fastest small SUV in both gas and electric form. We’ll cover the V6 Turbos, the electric Turbo, and what to check before buying.

One Name, Two Cars
Porsche uses “Turbo” for its top models, even when there’s no turbocharger. That’s why the electric Macan Turbo has two electric motors and no turbo at all.
So “Macan Turbo” can mean a gas V6 from 2014 or an electric SUV from 2024. They share a badge and a rough shape, and not much else. For the full Macan story, see our Macan model guide.
| Version | Engine | Power and torque |
|---|---|---|
| 2014 Macan Turbo | 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 | 400 hp |
| 2016 Performance Package | 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 | 440 hp, 600 Nm |
| 2019 Macan Turbo | 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 | 440 PS, 550 Nm |
| 2024 electric Macan Turbo | Two electric motors | Up to 639 PS, 1,130 Nm |
The Original V6 Macan Turbo
The Macan made its world debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The Turbo sat at the top of the range from day one, with a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6, a seven-speed PDK gearbox, and all-wheel drive.

At launch it made 400 hp. That was a lot for a compact SUV in 2014, and it gave the Macan Turbo the pace to match its badge.
The 2016 Performance Package
In 2016, Porsche added a Performance Package for the Turbo. It raised output by 40 hp to 440 hp, with 600 Nm of torque. Porsche quoted 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 272 km/h.

The package was more than extra power. It added 390 mm front brake discs with six-piston calipers, a body lowered by 15 mm (10 mm with air suspension), PASM, Sport Chrono, and a sports exhaust. If a seller says their car has it, the factory option list should show it.
The 2019 Macan Turbo
The facelifted Macan Turbo arrived in 2019 with a new engine. Porsche swapped the 3.6 for a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, with the turbos tucked inside the V. It made 440 PS and 550 Nm.

With Sport Chrono, it hit 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and topped out at 270 km/h. Porsche’s coated brake discs and 20-inch wheels came standard. Air suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes were options, so don’t assume a car has them.
Both cars make 324 kW. Porsche called that 440 hp in 2016 and 440 PS in 2019, so it’s the same power. The 2019 car’s smaller engine made less torque, 550 Nm against 600 Nm.
The Electric Macan Turbo
The second-generation Macan arrived in January 2024, and it was fully electric. The Turbo uses two electric motors, one per axle, for all-wheel drive. With Launch Control, it makes up to 639 PS and 1,130 Nm.

That’s enough for 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h. That’s a full second quicker than the 2019 V6 Turbo.

It runs on an 800-volt system with a 100 kWh battery, 95 kWh of which is usable. On a fast enough charger, and in the right conditions, it goes from 10 to 80 percent in about 21 minutes. Porsche quoted up to 591 km of WLTP range for the Turbo.
Air suspension comes standard, and rear-axle steering is optional. For more on range and charging, see our Macan EV guide.
Specs Side by Side
Here’s how the Turbos stack up on Porsche’s own launch figures.
| Version | 0 to 100 km/h | Top speed |
|---|---|---|
| 2016 Performance Package | 4.4 seconds | 272 km/h |
| 2019 Macan Turbo | 4.3 seconds, with Sport Chrono | 270 km/h |
| 2024 electric Turbo | 3.3 seconds | 260 km/h |
The electric car is a full second quicker to 100 km/h than the 2019 Turbo, but the V6 cars have the higher top speed. Range figures aren’t directly comparable either, since the old and new cars were tested under different cycles.
Choosing Between V6 and Electric
Pick the V6 if you want engine noise, a PDK gearbox, and five-minute fuel stops. It also suits you if you don’t have easy charging at home.

Pick the electric Turbo if you can charge at home and want the most speed. It’s quicker, quieter, and newer, but road trips need some charging planning. If you want a gas Macan with newer tech, the later Macan GTS took over as the top combustion model once the V6 Turbo was dropped.
Buying a Used Macan Turbo
Start with the paperwork
Run the VIN and get the factory option list. That tells you the year, engine, and whether the car really has the Performance Package or the options the seller claims.

V6 and electric checks
On a V6, look for a full service history and have a specialist check for oil leaks, cooling issues, and brake wear. On early cars, walk away from any transfer-case shudder at low speed. On the electric car, ask for a battery health report and test the charging. Check any open recalls with Porsche too. Our Macan reliability guide lists the common problems.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Porsche Macan Turbo electric?
The current one is. Porsche launched an all-electric Macan Turbo in 2024. Earlier Macan Turbos, from 2014 to the early 2020s, used a twin-turbo V6 gas engine.
How much horsepower does the Macan Turbo have?
It depends on the year. The original 3.6-liter V6 made 400 hp, the 2016 Performance Package made 440 hp, and the 2019 2.9-liter car made 440 PS. The electric Turbo makes up to 639 PS with Launch Control.
How fast is the electric Macan Turbo?
Porsche quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h. That makes it the quickest Macan so far.
What was the Macan Turbo Performance Package?
It was a 2016 upgrade for the V6 Macan Turbo. It added 40 hp for 440 hp total, plus bigger front brakes, a lower ride height, Sport Chrono, and a sports exhaust.
Which Macan Turbo should I buy?
Buy the V6 if you want engine noise and fast refueling. Buy the electric Turbo if you can charge at home and want the most speed. Either way, check the VIN and service history first.
